Managing Protocol in a War Zone

Length of program: customized 60-120 minutes

 

This photo rich presentation of life, meeting planning, and protocol activities in Iraq occurred during the Coalition Provisional Authority’s activities following the liberation of Iraq in 2003.  Mr. Frye served as Chief of Protocol to Ambassador L. Paul Bremer, III from December 3rd 2003 to July 31st 2004.

During this period, Mr. Frye’s protocol and visits department managed over 50 congressional delegations consisting of over 275 Senators and members of the US House of Representatives, cabinet members, senior military officers, foreign government ministers, royalty, and Heads of State.  

Mr. Frye will describe through a photo rich presentation:

    • Life in the Green Zone, Baghdad Republican Palace (dining, trailer living, special security issues, under attack at the Palace)
    • Managing protocol (motorcades, body armor, events at the Ambassador’s Villa, meeting protocols, transportation via Humvees, C130 cargo aircraft, HH60 Blackhawk Gun Ship helicopters)
    • Signing ceremonies for the Transitional Administrative Law (TAL) on March 8th and the Transfer of Sovereignty on June 30th
    • Visit Saddam’s spider hole to re-live his capture
    • Graphic pictures of the constant threat to all personnel - improvised explosive devises (IEDs) and their results
 

After participating in this program, you will:

    • Gain a new perspective on war zone restrictions and obstacles to professional meeting planning and protocol
    • Gain a much better understanding of a meeting manager’s life and work in a work zone

As the former Chief of Protocol for AT&T and Lucent Technologies, Frye has over 30 years of experience in marketing and international business protocol.  During his career, he has held executive positions in operations, marketing, sales, corporate education, and public relations. In 1986 Frye founded and is managing director of  International Business Protocol which is a partner with The Lett Group, Silver Spring, Maryland.  Frye was serving as Chief of Protocol to Ambassador L. Paul Bremer III, Adminstrator, Coalition Provisional Authority, Baghdad Iraq.  He returned to the United States in early August 2004.

Speakers fee:  depending on location and travel requirements - plus travel and living expenses
